From Instructor to Career Mentor Workshops

Research shows that many young people give up on their dream jobs because they do not perceive those jobs as accessible to someone of their race, gender, class, or other identity category, or because they have embedded faulty beliefs about their own capabilities. This workshop, available to middle school, high school, college, and adult education instructors, trains teachers to mentor students in overcoming negative thinking and boosting their career self-efficacy.
This 2-hour workshop focuses on opportunities in the curriculum for teachers to lead these empowering career discussions. Participants practice coaching students through negative thinking about career possibilities, and a variety of resources and tools are shared, including a crosswalk of the curriculum with suggestions for activities/discussions.
