Monday, October 26th

Featured Keynote Speaker (3:00pm – 3:30pm)

California State University, Long Beach

Featured Keynote Speaker Dr. Jane Conoley, PresidentIn her keynote, President Conoley will address the importance of providing college, career, and life planning across all four years of college. She will highlight how California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), is meeting the goals of “The Long Beach College Promise,” a collaborative effort among the Long Beach Unified School District, CSULB, Long Beach City College, the Long Beach Mayor’s office, and the Port of Long Beach to help inspire students to focus on their future goals.

Dr. Conoley will discuss a variety of high impact educational practices that allow students to clarify their values and professional dreams. She will share data indicating that Promise Students are arriving to CSULB more prepared academically and are persisting and graduating at historic levels.

 


 

Get Focused Stay Focused Overview (3:45pm – 4:20pm)

Dr. Lauren Wintermeyer Ramirez will present an overview of the Get Focused Stay Focused programs for both high school and college. She will discuss this comprehensive guidance course designed to increase high school and college completion AND propel successful entry into the workforce.  It can be a challenge for the Community College to develop a seamless transition model to effectively onboard students knowing that some have had four years of GFSF in high school, while others enter the college having no prior career development experience. Attend this session to strategize how you can develop an FYE model that is flexible in meeting students where they are and ensuring that they are supported throughout their transition into post-secondary education.

SESSION ONE:  

Dual Enrollment/Articulation – Bridging the K14 gap with dual enrollment and GFSF:  This session focuses on the development of early college credit courses using the Get Focused Stay Focused Program.

SESSION TWO:  

Best Practices for Regional GFSF Implementation & Sustainability: This session will highlight customized Get Focused Stay Focused professional development models from the Northern and Central Valley regions of CA to meet the specialized needs of their regional educators.

SESSION THREE:  

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in College and Career for Black, Indigenous and People of Color: This panel discussion will include practitioners from across California who teach and support high school, adult school, non-traditional school settings, incarcerated students and community college GFSF courses. Join them in a safe space to nurture an antiracist mindset and discuss strategies to integrate equity, access, and culturally responsive and relevant strategies that you can use in your GFSF program. There will be a question and answer period.
