Annual Career Planning

All students should graduate knowing what their next steps are towards an informed career goal.

To make that possible, students developing a 10-year career plan in 9th grade in high school need to update it annually as they refine their future career objectives. The Get Focused, Stay Focused nonprofit can help you customize annual career planning for your students, ensuring they transition successfully after high school.

A study commissioned by the Get Focused, Stay Focused nonprofit in 2022 followed a cohort of students who had updated their 10-year plans into community college; the study found that these students outperformed students from other high schools on several indicators of college success.

  • They earned more total credits and UC/CSU eligible transfer credits
  • They were more likely to complete their English and Math transfer credits in the first year of enrollment
  • They were more likely to persist into the second year of study

If you would like to ensure similar success outcomes for your students after high school, the Get Focused, Stay Focused nonprofit will help you move from a stand-alone course to all students revisiting and updating their plans annually, with counselors and other teachers using the students’ 10-year plans for counseling sessions and academic coaching.
